Farali Bhajia, also known as Vrat ke Bhajia, are crispy and flavorful fritters made during fasting days in India, particularly during Navratri or other religious festivals. These fritters are made using ingredients that are permissible during fasting.
To prepare Farali Bhajia, a batter is made using fasting-friendly ingredients such as buckwheat flour (kuttu ka atta), water chestnut flour (singhare ka atta), or amaranth flour (rajgira atta). The flour is mixed with water and seasoned with spices like rock salt (sendha namak), cumin seeds, and chopped green chilies. Sometimes, grated potatoes or thinly sliced vegetables like sweet potatoes or raw bananas are added to the batter to enhance flavor and texture.
The batter is then spooned or ladled into hot oil and deep-fried until golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, Farali Bhajia are drained on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Farali Bhajia are typically served hot and enjoyed with chutneys or yogurt-based dips. They make for a delicious and indulgent snack during fasting periods, providing a satisfying and flavorful treat while adhering to dietary restrictions.
