Next, spices such as turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and garam masala are added to the pan and cooked until fragrant. The boiled black chickpeas are then added to the mixture along with water and salt to taste.

The dish is simmered until the flavors meld together and the gravy thickens slightly. Sometimes, tomatoes or tamarind paste may be added for tanginess.
